Question Properties

Properties are inline modifiers appended to a question directive to control behaviour — such as randomising options, enforcing selection limits, or capturing verbatim text. They appear on the *QUESTION line or on individual option lines.

Properties

Appended to an answer option to capture a free-text verbatim response when that option is selected. Commonly used with an "Other (Please Specify)" option.

Marks an answer option as exclusive — when selected, no other options can be chosen simultaneously. Typically used for "None of These" or "None of the Above" options.

Sets the minimum number of options a respondent must select in a Multiple Response question. The respondent cannot advance without selecting at least this many options.

Sets the maximum number of options a respondent can select in a Multiple Response question. The respondent is prevented from selecting more than this number.

5 *ROT SR MR RANK

Rotates the answer options in a fixed sequential pattern across respondents. Each respondent sees the options starting from a different position, reducing order bias.

6 *RANDOM SR MR RANK

Randomizes the order of answer options independently for each respondent. Eliminates order bias by presenting options in a different random sequence each time.

7 *INCLUDE SR MR

Dynamically includes only the options that a respondent selected in a previous question. Used to pipe forward selected answers as the option list for a follow-up question.

8 *EXCLUDE SR MR

Dynamically excludes the options that a respondent selected in a previous question, showing only the options they did not choose. Useful for follow-up questions about non-selected items.
